Cremation Services

Not long ago cremation in America, especially in the Southeast, was seldom a choice. Today, many religions have given their blessing to the cremation process and public acceptance continues to grow.

In European countries such as Great Britain (of which Scotland is a part), cremation is the choice in most cases and committal services are often held at a chapel connected to the crematorium. Argyll Crematorium followed this concept in order to give families a comfortable environment if they choose to be present for a committal service.

The chapel of Argyll Crematorium is highlighted by a stained glass window, framed in Celtic knots reminiscent of the early Argyll settlers to Scotland County, North Carolina, and the center of the stained glass features dogwood flowers, North Carolina's state flower. The window area is framed with 250-year-old recycled long leaf pine lumber originally harvested in Scotland County.

Services often requested with cremation vary widely from personal memorial or funeral services to immediate cremation with no services. For more crematorium information go to Funeral Consumers Alliance.
