Melba WebsterAugust 15, 1943 ~ October 6, 2017 (age 74)
Melba Regan Webster, beloved wife of the late Walter Allen Webster, died Friday, October 6, 2017, at Morrison Manor Hospice Center. A daughter of the late John “Jack” Gurney Regan and Catherine Campbell Regan, she was born on August 15, 1943, in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Melba was a faithful member of Caledonia United Methodist Church.
Melba graduated from Laurinburg High School in 1961. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Women’s College (now UNC-G) in Greensboro, NC. At 45 years of age, she earned her Master’s degree in marriage and family counseling from East Carolina University. She worked as a therapist for Scotland County Mental Health, Marlboro County Mental Health, and also in her private practice. She then taught Early Childhood Development at Richmond Community College. Before entering her career in counseling, Melba was a part-owner of the Yarn Barn in Laurinburg.
Melba was a very active member of Caledonia church and in the Scotland County community. She was a member of the Pilot Club, and she supported community projects with her talents. She designed clothing and was an outstanding cook, both in the kitchen and on the grill. In everything she did, her love of family and community was abundant. In her spare time, Melba enjoyed playing bridge with friends and spending time with her family. She and Allen built a beautiful log home in Laurinburg and enjoyed tending to an ever-growing garden together. She loved to dance, and the Carolina Shag was her favorite.
She is survived by her son Brian Kenneth Shirley (Deborah) and her daughter Catherine Shirley Jackson. She also leaves two cherished grandchildren, Graham Keith Jackson and Amber Catherine Jackson, as well as great-grandson, Thomas Wayne Jackson. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Lynn Regan Massey (John) and Jane Regan Windham (Mike), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Melba’s life will be held at Caledonia United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with burial service to follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with guests in the church fellowship hall after the service.
