Winniford Alwood Simmons, Jr., 58 of Laurinburg, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at FirstHealth of the Carolinas Moore Regional Hospital.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at First Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Wike and Rev. Dr. Drag Kimery. Burial will be private.
Born January 13, 1960 in Scotland County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Winniford Alwood and Sarah Katherine Huggins Simmons. He was President of Simmons Lumber Company Do-It-Center and was also a disc jockey and independent insurance agent for a number of years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Winniford was a huge fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and was a Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed history (especially local history), traveling and cooking.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carol Hayes Simmons of the home; two sons, Winniford Alwood Simmons, III (Rachel) and Frazier Prosser Simmons both of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Rebecca Katharine Simmons and Sarah Elizabeth Simmons of the home; and one sister, Kathy Simmons Collier (Michael) of Goldsboro, NC.
The family will receive friends at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 PM.
