Laurel Hill
Houston Chavis, 68, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012, at his residence.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel.
He is predeceased by his father Dannie Lee Chavis, his son Charles J. Chavis, his brother Justin Chavis and his grandson Joseph Chavis. He is survived by his wife, Marie Chavis of the home; his mother, Clorene Chavis of Laurel Hill; his son, Benjamin J. Chavis (Amy) of Laurel Hill; his brother, Marshall Chavis of Hamlet; his sisters, Susie Chavis of Hamlet, Linda Farlow (Ed) of Biscoe, and Kathy Wright (Dewayne) of Laurinburg; his grandchildren, Aaron Chavis, Ashlan Chavis, Madison Chavis, Charles Chavis, Brittany Thrower, Billy Chavis, Katelyn Peele and Benjamin Austin Chavis, and one great grandchild.
He was born in Scotland County on July 25, 1943. After finishing high school he joined the United States Army where he became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division of Fort Bragg. He enjoyed shopping at Lowes, Gardening with Marie and supervising everyone from his Hoveround chair.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
